A conventional key is inserted and turned; a proximity key is detected by the vehicle. On the latter, the car has to be taught to accept the new key and the start side has to be proven, not just the doors.

When a smart key stops being detected
This is one of the most common Nissan calls we take, and it is often the key battery rather than the key. Most vehicles also have a manual way to start when detection fails, and we check the whole picture at the car.
