Jaguar keys are electronic units, not just cut blades. Depending on the model there is a transponder the immobiliser must recognise, remote locking functions, and on many cars keyless entry and keyless start. All of those elements need to be working before a key can genuinely be called a replacement.

On keyless models the key is a proximity device, which means the vehicle has to be taught to accept it and the start system tested as well as the doors. This is where a key bought online can quietly fail: it may lock and unlock but never start the car.

Where the vehicle supports it, keys reported lost can be deleted during programming so they will no longer unlock or start the vehicle. Support varies by model and key system, and we will tell you plainly if your vehicle does not allow it.
